Game devops and other things

About

I'm Shukri Adams, a South African/Danish programmer. I've worked a variety of coding jobs since 2001, spanning both front and backend, and in 2018 I decided to move into game development as a devops and automation engineer.

This blog is primarily about professional things related to devops in gaming, but I'm also keenly interested in self-hosted cloud tech and going digitally off the grid, ie, not being tied to services by tech giants like Amazon, Google etc. As a result this blog is entirely self-hosted and uses minimal integrations to 3rd party systems.

I'm not a big fan of the basic blogging format, and I think blogging needs to learn from formats like Twitter and move in a new direction that favours leaner posts and better discovery, but I need to start somewhere. Hopefully this blog can evolve.

Other stuff about me

  • I'm a Windows user who struggled for years to make the move to Linux, but finally got it right. Watch me struggle all the same though.
  • I love Docker. As great as Linux is, Docker is what made it practical.
  • I code in Javascript and C#
  • I favor open source solutions wherever possible, and I have a bunch of my own small projects on github.
  • I paint when I'm not coding, I put my stuff up on manafeed.com.
